MLS NEXT to Expand Youth League

  • NEW LEAGUE: MLS NEXT has announced that the league intends to expand to add a second-tier youth competition by September 2025. See statement.
  • EXPANDED POOL: The 151-member league with around 16,000 players says the expanded youth league will provide an opportunity to further build the player pool for professional clubs in North America.
  • DEVELOPING: MLS NEXT is the top soccer league for boys in the U.S. and Canada, with all MLS clubs and dozens of top independent clubs fielding squads among the various age groups in the league. 
  • NEW MARKETS: A new second-tier league would require expansion into other non-MLS markets across the nation, possibly competing with leagues. Read the statement. 
  • COMPETITION: The new league is likely to compete with leagues such as the ECNL Boys leagues, USYS Elite 64 boys and girls leagues, and USL Academy league.
